Student Life

In addition to the excellent classical education curriculum taught at Heritage, we also offer a wide array of student activities.  The activities are designed to promote academic and leadership skills, encourage peer interaction, and impact spiritual growth.  Some of our favorite activities are listed below:

Grammar level

* All school picnic 
What a fun way to start the year!  Students, families, and teachers gather to share food and fun the week before class starts.

* Spelling Bee
Time to remember that “i comes before e!”  Our grammar school kids compete at the school level with a chance to go on to district.

* Art/Science fair 
Students are given the opportunity to create and present a display of their independent science research during an evening on campus.  Displays of children’s artwork complete the scene!

* Chapel
Twice a month we don our dress uniforms and take time during the day to learn the deeper truths of following Jesus.  This is a fun, reflective time to think about how much God loves us.

* Speech meet
Ahem!! Pick a category and deliver a speech for our grammar level speech competition. Remember confidence and poise, ladies and gentlemen!

* Field day
A day of friendly fun gives our year a final touch.

* Grade Level Field Trips
Students enjoy field trips to area plays, symphonies, nature trails and other curriculum friendly events.

 

 Logic/Rhetoric levels

* All school picnic
We join in the fun with the whole student body as described above.  Parents, kids, and staff, this is the cool way to start school!

* Heritage History Days
Let’s travel back in time and dig in for some super research.  This project begins in English class during November and culminates in a great exhibit of papers, displays, websites, and documentaries during the month of January.  The top winners in each category are off to Willamette University to compete at the state level.  Several Heritage history buffs usually make it all the way to the national competition in Washington DC later in the summer!

* Spirit Week
The week preceding homecoming is silly and spirited!  Themed dress days, a ballroom dance, and lots of support for Varsity Basketball makes this week a blast!

* Renaissance Fair
Knights and maidens, come prepared!  We celebrate our classical roots with vigor.  Stockades, a medieval banquet and an evening event transport us to a faraway place.

* Speech Meet
Our upper level kids compete off campus with students from other ACSI schools.
 
* Math Counts Competitition
Sharpen those pencils for a chance to compete in math with kids from other local schools.  Mr. Wallace, better known as Mr. Math Maniac, leads the charge.

* Student Government
Leadership skills shine when students lead their peers. Run a clean campaign and sit on the student council.

* Latin Olympics
Latin classes unite! This is a day to compete with other local kids and see if your Latin can conquer the day.

* School play
Memorize those lines or work on the talented tech crew.  Our school productions showcase our top notch talent!

* Logic/Rhetoric choirs
Our choirs sing at our holiday program and the annual banquet, as well as in the community.  Lofty lyrics and lovely melodies will melt your hearts!

* Science Fair
Is Physics your fantasy?  Students compete with displays of independent research, calculations, and conclusions!

* Field Trips
Our Earth Science kids can’t be contained!  Trips to Mt. St. Helens, the beach, and bird sanctuaries are just a few of our field trips.  English students attend theatre performances as well.

* Chapel
Speakers from local churches and small Bible study groups alert our minds and hearts to the deeper truths of God.

* Service Projects
We want to live out our faith in the day to day!  Opportunities arise to serve the school and the community.

* Year Book
Let’s capture those memories!  With so many student activities, we’re a busy bunch!
