In 1997 several individuals with a heart for young people were in pursuit of high-quality, non-denominational Christian education in Hillsboro, Oregon. They developed a mission statement and statement of faith that would later lay the foundation for an unparalleled curriculum. It began as a passion for cultivating leaders and the rest is history.
Once the founders of Heritage Christian chose the Classical education model, they went to work implementing the Trivium. The Trivium is a methodology that emphasizes the mastery of core content through the study of Grammar (the mechanics of language), Logic (the mechanics of thought and analysis), and Rhetoric (the use of language to instruct and persuade).
With 40 students enrolled, Heritage Christian opened the School of Logic (middle school) on September 7, 1998. Classes were added each year until the school had a complete four-year college preparatory curriculum with the first class graduating in 2002. In 1999, the School of Rhetoric (high school) was added bringing enrollment to 98. In the spring of 2006 an entire Grammar campus followed, allowing Heritage to provide a complete K-12 Classical Christian education.
In 2006 the school gained 6th - 12th grade accreditation by ACSI, Association of Christian Schools International. The accreditation process required long hours of research and documentation by staff and dedicated school volunteers. Heritage is also a member of ACCS, Association of Classical Christian Schools. After years of refining an outstanding curriculum built firmly on core Christian principles, Heritage is making history.
What started as a vision has come to fruition. We are now seeing results as Heritage alumni are using the tools they learned at Heritage to impact their world.
