Mr. Johnson says he has known since the 6th grade that he would grow up to be a reading and writing teacher. “I have always loved to read and write stories of my own. I was always thrilled in school to write and help other students express themselves through the written word. I knew I was called to work with young people. I spent 2 1/2 years as a youth pastor and left the church to pursue a career in teaching. I began researching Christian schools in the greater Metro area and stumbled upon Heritage in May of its first year. I met with HCS Leadership who introduced me to Classical Education. I spent the next three weeks researching Classical Education and decided that this ‘new concept’ (which was only new to me) was worthy of pursuing. I liked the idea of teaching students ‘how to think,’ not ‘what to think.’ I have spent the last 9 years growing in my understanding of Classical Education and becoming a better Classical Teacher. I believe it is a process -- the longer I spend as a growing Classical Teacher, the better I will become. I am learning more each and every year.”
