Humanities/Humanities Chair
Mr. Plato comes to Heritage Christian School with a Bachelor of Science in Education and Social Studies with and a Minor in Bible from Corban College. He also holds a Masters of Science in Education and Social Studies from Western Oregon University. What has prepared Mr. Plato to be a classical educator is the formal learning from two professional education programs as well as the informal reading of classics, philosophy, and theology.
“Christ has Risen, Christ is Lord!” Mr. Plato feels very blessed and grateful to be at Heritage Christian School and is excited to be teaching at a Christ-centered classical school. He is convinced that a classical education is not only what all our children need, but what our culture needs. “In this increasingly visual and technological age the written and spoken word are falling out of favor and America is drifting towards semi-literacy. The idea of virtue is almost non-existent in today’s educational world and what counts as knowledge is relegated to the sciences alone.” according to Mr. Plato.
Above even teaching, the most important thing to Mr. Plato is his family. He has a beautiful wife name Katie, a daughter, Miriam- “who will kill you with cuteness,” and a brand new one on the way! The Plato family currently lives in Salem and loves the life of Church. They enjoy playing cribbage, going to Courthouse Athletic Club, walking at Silver Creek Falls, and reading.
Why does Mr. Plato love teaching? “First and foremost I love children, especially Rhetoric level, and I love learning! My passion is to teach students that we are servants in God’s kingdom, called to be responsible for His Creation (Genesis1:26-28), to live the Resurrection life in our own lives (Phil 3:9-10), and to bring His New Creation (Matt 28:19) to our families, schools, counties, states, nation, and world (1 Cor. 15:58).”
Per Mr. Plato, “I’m here at Heritage to equip God’s people to love Him with their mind and to serve the world for His Kingdom. The more students learn and live in Christ is truly my soul’s desire as a teacher.” |
