Mia Hicks is in her fourth year as a Kindergarten teacher. She Attended the Oregon Institute of Technology and was an assistant Kindergarten teacher for two years.
Mrs. Hicks has been married for 17 years and is the mother of two girls, ages 12 and 15. She likes to scrapbook and is her daughters' number one fan. One of her daughters plays varsity soccer and JV basketball as a freshman. The other is a competitive ice skater and cheerleader.
Mrs. Hicks is in the teaching profession because she loves kids and is amazed each day by what they teach her. Her heart has always been softened by the "Awe" they profess when they learn something for the first time. Her students inspire her to be the person God created her to be. In return, Mrs. Hicks hopes to inspire kids to become the amazing creation God has planned for them.
Mrs. Hicks believes God gave her: ears to listen since children will speak the truth telling what they need and how to teach them; a simple mind which permits teaching in a clear and consistent manner; and a vivid imagination allowing her to make education fun so her kids develop a love for learning.
She believes God led her to teach at Heritage Christian to serve Him and His children. She says of her own school experience: “I had to work very hard during my school years. I understand firsthand that not all children take the same path to success. God made each of us special. What makes us special and unique also makes us learn in a special and unique way. God has shown me that each of us learns differently. A classical school not only teaches subjects but empowers students to know themselves and how they learn. This gives them the tools and confidence to continue learning long after they leave the classroom. This is where I am called to serve our Lord and Savior.
