Thanks to all of the fans who helped the Knights boys basketball team snuff the Damascus Christian Eagles last night, 56-36, with a convincing win at Multnomah Bible College!
Heritage trailed after the first three minutes of the game, but then went on a large run, and never looked back. The margin was as small as seven at one point in the game, but as high as 26. Solid contributions from every team member, as well as great backing from our fans, is what spurred us to victory. The win came on the heels of losing to Damascus last Friday night, at Heritage, in the last game of the regular season.
Heritage now faces North Clackamas in the district semi-final playoff game, tomorrow night (Thursday), at 8:00pm, at Multnomah Bible College. This will be the biggest game---and potential for upset--in Heritage sports history. Please come and cheer your team on to victory (bring your spirit-shirts, pom-poms, foam fingers, foam swords; paint yourself green, make signs and banners)!!! Hope to see you there.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO KNIGHTS!!!!!
Knights Fans…
Congratulations are in order for achievement in our varsity basketball program! The following players were named to the All Valley-10 League:
- Zach Uebele - First Team
- Matt Campbell - Second Team
- Ben Schmalz - Honorable Mention
- Alex Hossner - Honorable Mention
Only sixteen players were nominated this year for the boys’ all-league team, which is about ten less than average; to be considered one of the top sixteen players in our league, for FOUR of our guys, is quite an accomplishment! Coaches nominate their own players, opposing coaches vote for the top five players as the First Team, the second five best players as the Second Team with the remaining players who receive votes being awarded "Honorable Mention".
Way to go Knights!
The Lady Knights team had the following FIVE players named to the All Valley-10 League:
- Kady Hossner – Honorable Mention
- Merri Sjodin – Honorable Mention
- Hana Fisher – Honorable Mention
- Andrea Sunada – Honorable Mention
- Leanne Bingham – Honorable Mention
Way to go Lady Knights!
Heritage Christian School was named the school with the best sportsmanship (again, by opposing coaches) IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE!!! Factors considered are the sportsmanship of players, fans and coaches. This is a huge testimony to other teams in our league, as well as the officials, and brings honor and glory to the Lord.
Thanks for all of your support this season.
GO KNIGHTS!
Knights Fans...
Our Knights basketball teams are off to a tremendous start!!! Our Junior High boys’ team is a perfect 2-0, with two convincing wins over Forest Hills Lutheran, and CS Lewis. The Junior High girls’ team is struggling a bit out-of-the-gate, but shows promise in a group of young players who are eager to learn. Our thanks to Megan Wingard (girls’ coach) and Christian Amondson and Ryan Hossner (boys’ coaches) for their hard work thus far this season. Remember, these kids will represent our varsity teams at the high school level not long from now. Come check out our Junior High teams tonight, at Gilkey Elementary school, as they try to seek revenge for last year’s losses. The girls play at 4:00pm, and the boys play at 5:30pm.
According to our current practice and game schedules—for both the junior high teams, AND the high school teams---there is a conflict this Thursday, January 17th, as ALL FOUR teams are scheduled to play AT HOME. I am currently corresponding with the Athletic Director at Faith Bible to attempt to re-schedule the junior high games for Friday night, January 18th, (same game times) here at Heritage. I’ll be in contact with you shortly, to relay information regarding this scheduling conflict. Thanks for your patience!!! Also, for all future AWAY games, carpooling will be the recommended mode of transportation, as bus service will not be available.
The Varsity Girls basketball team is off to a slow start, but is eagerly anticipating the second half of the season, to settle some scores with a few teams who caught us on a bad night. This team is full of youngsters, and these kids are eager to learn the game and to improve. The coaching staff is excited about the potential that these young ladies have, and can’t wait to play many of their opponents for the second time. Our thanks to Scott Aldrich and Megan Wingard for their devotion to the Lord and to the kids over the past few months; we are thankful for coaches that are willing and able to commit themselves to the school and our teams!!!
The Varsity Boys’ team currently stands at 9-2 for the season (6-2 in league play), and has beaten a couple of different teams FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HERITAGE HISTORY. Heritage routed Columbia on December 14th with a last-second buzzer beater by Sophomore Alex Hossner; Columbia will be anxious to exact revenge on January 22nd at their place. The Boys’ team has also had convincing wins at Life Christian, Southwest Bible, and Damascus Christian (on their Homecoming night, even!!!!) The Knights are playing great basketball right now, and there is more than one team that will be gunning for us as the season is now at the half-way point. We play at City Christian on the 15th, play host to Portland Waldorf on Thursday, the 17th; then play at Columbia Christian on the 22nd, host Open Door (Homecoming) on the 25th, play at North Clackamas Christian on the 29th, and then end the season with three home games in a row (Southwest Christian on Feb.1st; Life on Feb. 5th; and Damascus on Feb. 8th). The Knights only two losses have been against Portland Waldorf (in overtime)—and we play them HERE at hour place, this Thursday at 5:30 (girls) and 7:00 (boys)—and North Clackamas @ North Clackamas, on January 29th.
If you haven’t been to a game yet, please make it a point to show the student-athletes how much you support them, and come to a game!!!
Thanks for all your support and help in making this season one to remember!!!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOO KNIGHTS!!!!
The Lady Knights enjoyed their first league win on Tuesday night beating Life Christian 41 -31. Kady Hossner lead the way for the Ladies with 17 points and 13 steals. Merri Sjodin added 10 points and 9 rebounds. The Ladies' defense played a significant role in the victory - Life only scored 10 points in the first half.
Zach Uebele led the Knights to their fourth league win on Friday night, with a triple double (double-digits in three categories), in a victory over Southwest Bible. Matt Campbell had a double-double as well.
The Knights cruised to another league win over Life Christian this past Tuesday, making their record an outstanding 8-2 for the season. Both varsity teams play AT Damascus tonight, and will be on the hunt for two more league victories.
Thanks for all your support Knights fans!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations are in order, to the Heritage Boys Varsity Basketball Team, who, this past weekend, took home their first EVER basketball trophy, with two victories in the Gaston Invitational Basketball Tournament. The boys team routed Perrydale Friday evening, then soundly defeated CS Lewis of Newberg in the title game. The trophy will be on display in the trophy case in building four just after school starts after the break. THE BOYS KNIGHTS BASKETBALL TEAM IS OFF TO ITS BEST START (AND BEST RECORD) EVER IN SCHOOL HISTORY, WITH A RECORD OF 6-2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations KNIGHTS!!!! And, thanks for all of your support.
The Knights (boys team) beat Columbia Christian this past Friday, December 14th, with a 3-pointer at the buzzer by Sophomore forward Alex Hossner. This was one of the best games in the history of Heritage Christian School, with neither team leading during the game by more than 7 points. Heritage was severely outmatched in the post—by way of size—but limited Columbia’s big men to one shot each time down the floor with an excellent box-out performance. Heritage forced Columbia to dump the ball inside, then double-teamed their big men, forcing them to “beat” us at different positions—something Columbia Christian is not accustomed to. Then, with 15.9 seconds remaining, Heritage called a time-out and drew up a play, forcing Columbia to double-team Ben Schmalz—a homeschooler who plays for the Knights—and enabled Alex Hossner to break free for a shot at the buzzer. This is the first time in school history that Heritage has beat Columbia Christian. Our record now stands at 3-1.
Both the boys and girls teams face North Clackamas Christian tomorrow night (Tuesday), here at our place, at 7:00 and 5:30 respectively.
The Lady Knights lost a close one to Columbia Christian tonight, 46 - 44 in overtime. Led by Hana Fisher with 14 points and 9 rebounds and Merri Sjodin with 11 points and 11 rebounds the Knights led early and kept the lead nearly the entire game. Columbia Christian slowly whittled away at the lead and, aided by a couple of turnovers near the end of regulation, forced an overtime. Though the Lady Knights came out on the short end tonight, they walked off the floor a different team than the one that started the season; stronger, more confident and mature.

The Heritage Knights Varsity Boys lost a tough game in overtime to Portland Waldorf tonight. After trailing by as much as 13 points in the fourth quarter, Heritage battled back to force the game into overtime. A few costly turnovers in the last few minutes of overtime, as well as poor performance at the freethrow line (8-23 for the game) led to a defeat that dealt the Knights’ their first loss of the season. Senior Zach Uebele led the Knights with 21 points.

The Heritage Varsity Girsl suffered its second loss in a row to Portland Waldorf this evening. Team captain Hana Fisher lead with 11 points and 15 rebounds, her third double double of the young season.
Portland Waldorf took control of the game from the opening buzzer and never looked back. The big story in the Heritage loss was the number of turnovers, 43! With a bye on December 11th the girls will have a little extra time to work on passing, the main cause of the turnovers. Heritage is now 2-2 for the season, 0-2 in conference play.

Both the boys and girls varsity basketball teams started off their seasons with a win on Friday night. The girls' team, took FIRST PLACE in a jamboree on Friday and Saturday, winning both of their games convincingly; the trophy is on display in building one for all to admire. Way to go Lady Knights!!!
The boys routed King's Way of Vancouver, Washington with a score of 62 to 20, led by Zach Uebele with 21 points. Matt Campbell chipped in 14, and Alex Hossner with 13.
Make sure that you come and support the Knights and Lady Knights at home, this Tuesday, December 4th, as they face City Christian of the Valley 10 League (girls at 5:30, boys at 7:00). GO KNIGHTS!!!
